Jill has this quote from Yeats at the bottom of her emails: "the falcon cannot hear the falconer." So when she invited us to write about destruction, all I could think about was poetry. Yeats destroying his life waiting for Maud Gonne. T. S. Eliot watching his wife break down, feeling his own mind reeling as he stared up at a dark ceiling each night.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold . . .

White bodies naked on the low damp ground
And bones cast in a little low dry garret,
Rattled by the rat's foot only, year to year . . .

Someone started a mock religion called Discordianism, but some people started taking it seriously and now call themselves Discordians. They worship the Greek goddess Eris, sister to Ares--the goddess of war and chaos. They believe in chaos theory--that chaos has an underlying order. I don't know exactly what they believe, but I've heard that Discordians tend to be fairly destructive people.
